How does The Sweet Life Sanctuary differ from a life coach?

Where The Sweet Life Sanctuary differs from life coaching is that their services explicitly includes the application of appropriate psychological theory. The Sweet Life Sanctuary has over 10 years of experience and understanding of developmental issues in a variety of contexts and therefore is well placed to facilitate change and enhanced performance in their clients. This is particularly useful if a client is experiencing a number of psychological blocks.

In a nutshell, the philosophy underpinning The Sweet Life Sanctuary is to enhance well-being, performance and satisfaction in your personal life and work domains, through techniques underpinned by psychological models and concepts grounded in evidence.

What is a Registered Psychologist?

A Registered Psychologist in NZ has successfully completed extensive formal academic studies, training and practical experience.  They are trained to use scientific measures in their practice.  A NZ Registered Psychologist must be registered with The New Zealand Psychologists' Board www.psychologistsboard.org.nz

What is psychological intervention/therapy?

Psychological therapy is a two way process between the client and the psychologist.  The initial session is about understanding your current situation and discussing and agreeing on individual treatment areas with your therapist. It can be helpful for you beforehand to think about your expectations from therapy and raise any concerns that you have with your therapist.

Research shows that therapy works best when you attend regularly, are motivated and give some thought to what you want to discuss during each session.  The type of therapy offered by The Sweet Life Sanctuary asks you to practice skills and strategies discussed in session at home, work and when socialising.  Practicing these skills allows you to get more out of therapy.

How long does therapy last?

A clinical session is 50 minutes.  Each person is unique, therefore the amount of sessions for each person will differ. At The Sweet Life Sanctuary, we are committed to designing a bespoke programme specific to your goals and needs.  Sessions are offered individually or in workshop format.

What are they rules about confidentiality?

Registered Psychologists in NZ are bound by the Psychologists Code of Ethics (2001).  Please look at this online version: www.psychologistsboard.org.nz . With regard to confidentiality at The Sweet Life Sanctuary, all therapy discussions are confidential with the important exception that if you are at risk from yourself or at risk to someone else then we are duty bound to protect you or any other party and will seek external supervision.

How much will it cost?

At The Sweet Life Sanctuary, the investment of discovering who you are and what you want from your life is $150 per individual session.  To contact The Sweet Life Sanctuary to discuss further options, enquire about bespoke programme design and to start living your sweet life....click here.

If this is positive psychology, does that mean that the rest of psychology is negative?

This is a good question... As mentioned earlier, positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that allow individuals and communities to thrive.  Positive Psychology balances what we already know about 'business-as-usual' psychology...i.e. human problems and suffering.  It allows society to re-focus on what is going well and encourage it!

Do I have to do this on my own?

It is recommended that you use this time to be self-indulgent...consider it 'me time'.  However, if you would like to have a friend, family member or partner accompany you for the first session then that is ok.  Please see Services page for details of types of sessions available....

Who is suitable for therapy at The Sweet Life Sanctuary?

The Sweet Life Sanctuary is suitable for male and female adults who are looking to discuss lifestyle options, balance and changes.  It is very important to note that The Sweet Life Sanctuary is not suitable for individuals with a history of severe mental illness.  If you are having serious thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please contact your GP or local Crisis Action Team/Lifeline without delay.
